WHY?
WHAT IS ANXIETY?
Animals, including humans, have a natural defence mechanism that creates feelings of anxiety to keep us safe. When triggered by potential danger and stressors like fear or excitement, our bodies flood with hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline in order to prepare for fight or flight; these serve the purpose of increased strength and speed while also narrowing focus on danger. Then after the threat has passed all systems return back to normal.
The question is, how does anxiety reach a level in humans that is so intense that it is difficult to function?
There is no definitive answer to this question, we all go in and out of a hypnotic state several times a day, some hypnotists may say that we are just moving from one trance to another.
Have you ever reached your destination without even the foggiest recollection of how you got there? Have scenes in movies made a lasting impression on where they have touched an emotional chord with laughter or tears? Does watching sports fill your veins with adrenaline and give rise to physical reactions such as yelling at referees during football matches, or feeling like throwing punches when viewing boxing games. These are prime examples of finding yourself deeply engrossed in moments that blur reality around us.
Daydreaming can be a captivating experience! When you drift off, take notice of the vivid thoughts and images that arise. As your body relaxes and fixates on these ideas, let yourself feel as if they were really happening – experiencing every emotion along with it.
These are just a few examples of what it is like when you are hypnotised.
Our internal experience plays a major role in how we respond to our environment. Just imagine taking that first bite into a luscious lemon – the sensation of sourness alone can make your mouth water! Taking some time to focus on this type of inner exploration allows us to physically feel and react as if what we’re imagining is happening right now.
